Portland Vegan Eats: Homegrown Smoker Vegan Barbecue

My week of Portland vegan eating exploration last month was kicked off at Homegrown Smoker Vegan Barbecue’s food truck on the corner of Mississippi & Skidmore. I had a feeling it was going to be a great meal, but what ensued was experiencing easily one of the best burgers I have ever tasted. The ‘All American Burger’ is made with a smoked Field Roast patty served on a grilled bun with pickles, tomato, mellow yellow & raw greens as well as a side of Tempeh facon. My co-diner had the ‘Slosmomofu Sandwich’ (below) consisting of smoked soy curls on a grilled bun with Maple-Bourbon BBQ sauce & Chipolte Slaw.

While standing in line, a fellow customer overheard my excitement & that I was covering vegan eats in Portland & mentioned that “they have one of the best vegan mac & cheeses in town.” Naturally I had to try, so ordered some to go & enjoyed later on with a delicious glass of beer. A very memorable mac & cheese dish!
