While in Tromsø this month I had a photoshoot planned with local band Mara & the Inner Strangeness. I met with lead singer Marita at her studio & as we tossed around location ideas, she put the idea of the Vulkana on the table.
Former whale vessel turned spa boat, the Vulkana immediately struck my mind as one of the most intriguing & fun location concepts we had on the table. So within a few days I had made contact with the Head Chef of the boat & received the permission we wanted & needed for a shoot.
So on a typically dim Winter Northern Norwegian late morning, we convened at the boat for a frisky, brisk & fun shoot.

After the shoot, I stayed on board for the Vulkana’s Saturday afternoon tour. I did not take advantage of the rather alluring on deck hot tub, but I did enjoy the beautiful sauna with views to the sea & especially enjoyed the Thai Fish Soup & home baked bread which I earlier watched being prepared by Head Chef Gottfried in the open air kitchen next to the boat’s atmospheric & cozy dining room. After indulging in some of the boat’s spa ameneties & then feasting on a fine & freshly made on board meal, it’s not at all difficult to understand how visitors to the Vulkana leave sated & pleased.
