After a tattoo session at Dark Art and some afternoon dining in Pest, we navigated our way to Szimpla. The guys at Dark Art Tattoo had recommended definitely visiting a ruin pub on our first trip in Budapest. We like to follow the local’s recommendations, so spent some time wandering through the Jewish Quarter in order to find this trademark ruin pub.

Some postcards from a vendor for a local deaf association.  Beautiful cards.

I personally tend to sometimes prefer the mental spaciousness of an empty bar scene.  For an early weekday afternoon, the lack of crowds was not surprising.  I sense this place thoroughly packs it in during the evening hours though. It’s a many roomed place as well as one of the most famous “ruin pubs” in Budapest.

A gorgeous, interesting Budapest moment at Szimpla.  I look forward to a return…..
